Course Overview

This three-day instructor-led course provides students who have Windows NT(R) 4.0 administration experience with an introduction to Active Directory (including the use of Group Policy) and the new features of DNS.

Please note that this course contains self study modules as highlighted in the course outline below This course has been classified as IT Technical Training.

Audience

This course is intended for systems engineers with experience planning, implementing, and supporting a Microsoft Windows NT(R) 4.0-based network.

Students must have good experience of administering a Windows NT 4.0 network, since the course builds on their current Windows NT 4.0 administration skills.

(Please note that this course is not suitable for those who already have experience of administering Windows 2000 Server networks.)

  • Manage and monitor Domain Name System.
  • Create and manage Active Directory objects.
  • Configure and manage a user environment by using Group Policy.

  • Implement a Domain Name System (DNS) server.
  • Install the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory(R) directory service.
  • Implement Group Policy to centrally manage a Windows Server 2003 family network.
  • Use advanced boot options, the Recovery Console, and the Backup utility.
  • Plan and implement secure Routing and Remote Access.

Prerequisites

Before attending this workshop, students must have at least one of the following prerequisites:

  • Certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Windows NT 4.0.
  • Attendance in Course 689: Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Technologies.
  • Possession of equivalent knowledge and skills.
