Course Overview

This 3 day theory and lab-based course explores the technology of the EVA, configuration, management and troubleshooting methods and options. The format of this course is 50% lecture and 50% hands-on.

Audience

Experienced System administrators responsible for the day to day management of the EVA environment.

Prerequisites

Students should have a sound knowledge of virtualisation, ENSA extended, SCSI, RAID and Fibre Channel technologies.

Course Outline

  • Virtualisation in the EVA
  • Operating system support, VCS code dependencies, hardware configurations and licensing requirements
  • Component configurations, FRUs and cabling including SAN connectivity guidelines.
  • Monitoring of the EVA and an overview of the CAN (Cabinet Area Network)
  • Configuring and managing the array including disk group, LUN and snap options from the element manager
  • Selective presentation of LUNs to hosts and OS specifics
  • Disk levelling, distributed sparing, vRAID and sizing considerations
  • Troubleshooting the array including performance and environmental considerations
  • Event log access and interrogation
  • EMU error diagnostics
