Course Overview

The development of new Shell scripts and the maintenance of existing ones, in a manner that offers easy understanding to others, is fundamental to a successful Linux installation. These Shell scripts can then be used to automate tasks and functions either independently or interactively.

Audience

System Administrators, Programmers and Operators who need to know the Shell programming language to be able to carry out their daily work. This course uses both the Bash and Z Shells.

Skills Gained

This course will enable delegates to:

  • Use the various shell quoting mechanisms appropriately.
  • Write simple scripts to enhance basic command output.
  • Manipulate shell variables and user-defined variables in scripts.
  • Implement conditional execution facilities.
  • Use the shell's built-in loop constructs where appropriate.

  • Develop menu-driven shellscripts.
