Course Overview

Learn everything you need to get test and development platforms up and running for your BusinessObjectsTM 6.5 enterprise. Gain an overview of all the Business Object's Business Intelligence (BI) platform products, administration tools, architecture, web and application servers, repositories, and domains. Practice installing, configuring, clustering, tuning, auditing, and tracing your system in a safe environment to ensure that you are familiar with best practices.

Course Outline

Report Builders - Learn about report builders' roles and the tools and products needed in any successful Business Objects 2-tier and 3-tier deployment. Learn how to delegate log on to an existing WebIntelligence system, and create, edit, and distribute WebIntelligence(R) and BusinessObjects reports.

Architecture Overview - Understand what servers are needed and how they interact.

2-tier Installation - Install desktop and administration products and set up middleware connections to the database. Understand the XML license file needed for all Business Objects products and what the key file is for.

Database-tier - Review database structure, universe design considerations, and learn about the BusinessObjects repository. Create and populate a repository and distribute it to multiple domains. Use Supervisor to add users and connect to a corporate database.

Web and Application Servers -Install Apache web servers and Tomcat application servers to set up a JSP environment to install and configure a Business Objects server.

Business Objects Server -Install and configure the Business Objects Server, multiple language support and LDAP authentication. Also learn about the administration console and Business Objects server processes

Broadcast Agent - Learn about Broadcast Agent and how to configure and test it.

Clustering - Learn the purpose and specific implementation of the object request broker (ORB) and the application services framework (ASF). Understand the role of the primary, secondary, and client nodes and how to configure them for load- balancing. Configure and load-balance a cluster.

Performance and Tuning - Improve the performance of your system by learning what impacts performance and what you can do to improve it.

Auditing and Trace Logging -Audit and trace your system to understand what's going on behind the scenes.

Deploying - Understand the different deployment scenarios. Learn how Enterprise 6 interacts with redirectors, firewalls, multiple web and application servers, and multiple clusters.
