Course Overview This course overviews the event systems of NNM and OVO, and describes strategies for distributing SNMP traps between NNM and OVO management systems, and for capturing syslog events. Models and techniques for reducing the events seen by NNM and OVO users are studied and practiced, followed by hands-on practice with correlating events, using ECS Composer with NNM and OVO. This course is intended for those who have experience using NNM and/or OVO as event capture and configuration tools. Audience - OpenView Customers: NNM and OVO administrators, system and network administrators, architects and planners.

Prerequisites - HP OpenView Network Node Manager 1: Essentials (B4743/Unix or H1662/Windows or UC340/combined), or HP OpenView Operations Administration I (H4356S)
- Introduction to HP OpenView Products and Integration (H9739AAE) is recommended
Course Outline - Capture syslog events using either OVO or NNM.
- Select the most appropriate technology to reduce browser "noise" by selecting alarms or messages to display or discard.
- Configure monitoring and response to SNMP traps received by either NNM or OVO.
- Describe the techniques used to distribute SNMP traps in a mixed NNM and OVO environment.
- Configure the software to recognize patterns in alarms or messages and display root causes for operator attention.
