HP Altiris: Deployment Solution Foundation

Course Overview

Learn how to upgrade computers to a new operating system by capturing a computer's existing data, installing and configuring a new operating system, and then restoring the computer data with a single mouse click using Deployment Solution(TM). In the Deployment Solution class, you will learn how to greatly reduce the time normally needed for these types of management functions through individual hands-on practice with Deployment Solution and your own network of virtual computers. You will also learn how Deployment Solution can complete other types of jobs remotely, such as running custom scripts, copying files, shutting down computers, and backing up registry files. Other topics you'll learn include how to use Wise Packager to create installation packages and deploy them using Deployment Solution, how to create hardware independent images to deploy to machines across your organization's network, how to manage multiple Deployment Systems in the same environment using a single console, and how to share Deployment jobs between Deployment Systems.

Audience

• Anyone who will be installing, configuring, and managing a Deployment Solution system.
• Anyone working towards their Altiris Certified Professional (ACP) or Altiris Certified Engineer (ACE) certifications.

Prerequisites

• Basic understanding and knowledge of Microsoft(R) Windows.
• Familiarity with networking concepts, including LANs, network adapter cards, drivers, and network operating systems.
• Familiarity with computer hardware components such as hubs, switches and routers.
• Optional, but recommended) Familiarity using VMware(R).

Course Outline

• Install and configure Deployment Solution(TM) 6.5.
• Set up and maintain strict Deployment System security.
• Create and restore unique computer images without visiting each computer.
• Install and configure AClient, the Altiris Deployment System Agent.
• Use the Altiris ImageExplorer to edit image files.
• Make self-installing image files for no-hassle rapid recovery of computers.
• Manage computers using the Deployment Console.
• Perform the following tasks remotely:
• Migrate computer personalities (user files and settings) using PC Transplant(R).
• Install and configure the Altiris Automation to support the Deployment System. This includes installing PXE and embedded automation using WinPE, Linux,and DOS as the automation operating systems.
• Use the Remote Control and Chat features to manage computers.
