Course Overview It is common knowledge how difficult is nowadays to manage the overall system performance, specially due to quick application growth, to the increase of the technical complexity and to the decreasing of high skill staff due to lack of time and classical education. On top of this, there is an increase in the pressure to reduce the cost of computing. Mainly, installation have been suffering the following symptoms: Waste of resources Bad performance affecting the business with non acceptable response times or poor throughput Bad availability To address these issues, ITSO is proposing a full immersion single installation 3-days seminar, where performance concepts are presented and discussed together with the evaluation of the customer RMF (or equivalent product) reports, console displays, Parmlib contents and sysouts created from SMF records. Skills Gained The benefits of this seminar are: - Learn the theory of system performance
- Better comprehension of system behavior and integration
- Capability of planning and managing the resource growth of the installation
- Provide a report with suggestions to improve the overall performance. The report will include:
- oChanges in the WLM policy
- oRecommendations for better use of LPAR management
- oModifications in the workload execution to reach a better balance
- oSuggestion to avoiding wasting of resources due to:
- Not efficient programming
- Inefficient parameters in JCL, Parmlib, SMS
- Potential problem in the configuration
Course Outline The lectures will cover the following subjects: - Performance management theory
- Service level agreements
- Processor considerations, including Parallel Sysplex performance
- I/O considerations
- Storage considerations
- Analysis of the customer workloads
