Course Overview

The course is based around a business driven development scenario from the auto-insurance industry. You are asked to analyse the business requirements and propose a process integration solution using a Patterns for e-Business modelling approach. You then play the roles of Business Analyst, Solution Architect and IT Specialist to build the solution. The Business Analyst models and simulates the business process using WebSphere Business Modeler v6.0.2. The analyst compares its performance with the existing solution and produces a return on investment report.

The Software Architect uses Rational Software Architect v7 to build a UML model of the solution. It combines the business process model and Patterns for e-Business model with a UML data model. The combined model describes the solution in terms of its components, interfaces and interactions. The architect generates schemas describing the data model and Web services from the combined UML model.

The IT specialists incorporate the refinements of the UML model into the business process model. The process model is exported as a WebSphere Process Server BPEL model into WebSphere Integration Developer v6.0.2 where it is refined into an executable process. The integration specialists also generate EJB implementations of the Web service applications and integrate them, and the processes, into the Enterprise Service Bus. The bus can be deployed to WebSphere Process Server or WebSphere ESB.

Audience

Application Developers, IT Architects, IT Specialists

Skills Gained

Build a business process solution that is deployed to the WebSphere v6 platform using a model driven development approach. Use WebSphere Business Modeler and Rational Software Architect to build BPEL and UML model of the solution. Then use WebSphere Integration Developer to generate and test the business processes and web service, for deployment onto WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere ESB.

The focus of the course is on how to follow a model driven development and how to use the WebSphere version 6 tools to create a service oriented business integration solution. The course is largely workshop based and gives students a experience with the modelling, developing and testing capabilities of the WebSphere Business Integration tools.

Prerequisites

Students should have had some programming experience during their career. The workshop requires no previous practical experience with the tools. The course will benefit you whether you have a background in UML, BPEL and Web services, and knowledge about IBM's WebSphere platform, or whether you want to use this workshop to find out about IBM's business integration tools in a hands on workshop.
