Course Overview

WAAS is a 3-day, instructor-led, lecture/lab course that teaches you about the business value of WAN optimization and application acceleration technologies. You will learn how to design a basic WAAS deployment and configure WAE devices, including traffic optimisations and file and print services. In the lab, you will install and configure WAE devices, configure and test application traffic policies, and configure file and print services.

Audience

  • Channel Partner / Reseller
  • Customer
  • Employee

Prerequisites

You will gain the most from this course if you:
  • Have a fundamental knowledge of data networking, as provided by the Cisco course Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO), and
  • Are familiar with Microsoft networking technologies

Course Outline

After you complete this course, you will be able to:
  • Describe the business value of WAN optimization and application acceleration technologies
  • Explain how Cisco WAAS and the WAE integrate into an existing network infrastructure
  • Explain how to initially configure the Cisco WAE, device mode, and network interception options
  • Explain how Cisco WAAS Central Manager is used to centrally configure, manage, and monitor a topology of WAE devices
  • Explain how Cisco WAAS Transport Flow Optimizations (TFO) improve TCP behaviour for applications existing in Wide Area Network (WAN) environments
  • Explain how Cisco WAAS advanced compression minimizes unnecessary bandwidth consumption and helps improve application performance over the WAN
  • Explain how Cisco WAAS Application Traffic Policies are used to define system behaviour when encountering specific applications
  • Explain why application-specific optimizations are required for file services protocols, and how Cisco WAAS improves performance for CIFS and NFS
  • Discuss WAAS print services capabilities, why they are necessary, and how they work
  • Explain how to monitor and troubleshoot Cisco WAAS
