Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should have:

  • Technical familiarity with basic Internet concepts and terminology, such as Domain Name Service (DNS), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Post Office Protocol (POP), and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)
  • Practical familiarity with earlier versions of Communication Services products
  • Practical familiarity with Solaris Operating System 9 (Solaris 9 OS)
  • Completed ECR-2389: Sun Java Enterprise System 2004Q2: Installation and Getting Started, or equivalent knowledge
  • Completed ECR-2281: Sun(TM) Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Middleware: Core Concepts, or equivalent knowledge

Module 1 - Sun Java System Communication Services

  • Identify the products that make up Communication Services
  • Describe the new features and updates in Communication Services
  • Describe deprecated features in Sun Java System Messaging Server 6 2004Q2 (formerly Sun ONE Messaging Server)
  • Describe deprecated features in Sun Java System Calendar Server 6 2004Q2 (formerly Sun ONE Calendar Server)

Module 2 - Installing Communication Services Components

  • Describe the Communication Services component product dependencies
  • Describe the Communication Services component product architectures
  • Describe the procedures for installing the Communication Services components
  • Describe postinstallation procedures for Communication Services components
  • Describe known installation issues with Communication Services components
  • Describe the procedures for upgrading from the Sun ONE Messaging Server to the Sun Java System Messaging Server
