Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Locate major components and have a high-level understanding of their function
  • Describe the purpose of each button and LED on the keypad and local operator panel (if applicable)
  • Properly use and maintain Ultrium and SDLT cartridges
  • Properly perform automated and manual tasks
  • Access SLC and use it to monitor the library components
  • Use the troubleshooting table to resolve simple problems, and know how to contact headquarters

Module 1 - Component Locations

  • Base module
  • Drive expansion module (if applicable)
  • Front door lock
  • Robotics unit

  • Local operator panel (if applicable)
  • Reserve slots
  • Slot numbering scheme (library, module, row, column)
  • Power switch
  • Power cords/strip
  • Tape drives

Module 2 - Controls and Indicators

  • Keypad
  • Local operator panel

Module 3 - Cartridge Information

  • Handle the cartridges
  • Identify the cartridge components
  • Apply labels
  • Set the write-protect switch

Module 4 - Library Operation

  • Automated Tasks:
  • Open the front door
  • Lock the front door
  • Open a CAP
  • Install a magazine into a CAP
  • Enter a cartridge through the CAP
  • Eject a cartridge through the CAP
  • Power-on the library
  • Power-off the library
  • Manual Tasks:
  • Open the front door (without power)
  • Lock the front door (without power)
  • Locate and remove a cartridge
  • Insert cartridges into slots
  • Insert a cartridge into a tape drive
  • Remove a cartridge from a tape drive
  • Remove a cartridge from the gripper assembly
  • Replace a cleaning cartridge
  • Return the library to ready status

Module 5 - Access SLC (password)

  • Use the Details screen to describe what components are in the library
  • Use the Reports screen and understand and print the reports

Module 6 - Troubleshooting

  • Use the troubleshooting table
