Course Overview

This course covers advanced features and functions of Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers, primarily focusing on add-on agents and options that enhance the functionality of Backup Exec. A high-level overview of the Backup Exec System Recovery product is also provided. This course includes practical exercises that enable you to test your new skills and begin to transfer them into your working environment.

Audience

This course is for system administrators, system engineers, technical support personnel, consultants, network administrators, backup administrators, backup operators, and others who will be responsible for installing, configuring, and administering Backup Exec 10d for Windows Servers.

Skills Gained

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Protect open files and manage shortened backup windows using the Advanced Open File Option.
  • Use database agents to back up different types of databases running on remote systems.
  • Perform synthetic backups and off-host backups using the Advanced Disk-Based Backup Option.
  • Automate file protection for users' desktop and laptop computers using the Desktop and Laptop Option.
  • Use the Central Admin Server Option to manage multiple media servers.
  • Use Continuous Protection Server.
  • Describe how to recover a complete system using Backup Exec System Recovery.

Prerequisites

You should have working knowledge of administration and configuration of the Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 platforms, and you should have experience configuring server software and hardware. Knowledge of domain security and Active Directory are recommended. Knowledge of MS-SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server is beneficial, but not necessary.
