Course Overview

Students who can benefit from this course are identity management engineers or systems administrators and other technical personnel responsible for the administration and maintenance of an identity management solution using Sun Java System Identity Manager.

Prerequisites

To succeed fully in this course, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of networking
  • Be familiar with terminology such as Internet, browser, Intranet, central processing unit (CPU), storage, protocol, internet protocol (IP) address, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Domain Name Server (DNS), and proxy
  • Describe how system components are interconnected in a networked environment
  • Describe functional differences between systems on the Internet, Extranet, and Intranet
  • Describe functional uses of terms such as routers, firewalls, DMZ, load balancers, and other networking hardware
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operating system environment
  • Work as a user in a operating system environment where product is being deployed
  • Perform basic operating system administration tasks
  • Be familiar with the Sun Java Identity Management Suite and the integrated solutions provided by the Identity Management Suite products

Module 1 - Analyzing an Existing Identity Management Deployment

  • Define identity management and describe how Identity Manager solves common identity management issues
  • Describe the features of Identity Manager
  • Describe the Identity Manager architecture
  • Describe a typical Identity Manager implementation
  • Describe a sample case study and deployment solution

Lab 1

  • Install Identity Manager
  • Examine a Clean Installation of Identity Manager
  • Examine a Deployed Identity Manager installation

Module 2 - Performing User Account Management, Organizational Changes, and Reporting

  • Describe Identity Manager objects used to manage user accounts
  • Define a virtual identity
  • Configure reports for achieving regulatory compliance

Lab 2

  • Modify an existing user
  • Create users
  • Move and delete users
  • Modify the organizational structure
  • Run user-specific reports

Module 3 - Upgrading Identity Manager

  • Describe the new features in Identity Manager 6.0 and Identity Manager 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • List supported operating systems, application servers, and databases
  • Describe the process and procedure for upgrading Identity Manager
  • Use Identity Manager assessment tools to prepare for an upgrade
