Course Outline

Introduction - Welcome

You will meet other delegates in a similar position of responsibility to yourself. An experienced, friendly trainer will ensure the course focuses on the particular skills you want to develop.

Leadership

This session uses group discussions to identiy what is expected of leaders in your organisation and what skills are needed for this role. You will use a situational leadership questionnaire to assess your preferred style and effectiveness. How to be a leader not a manager.

Being Decisive

You will discuss how your organisation's organisational structure reflects its decision making process. We will discuss barriers to good decisions, levels of authority, stakeholders and how/who to influence to achieve impact within this arena.

You will assess where you can gain input into the process and what alternative solutions exist. We will use the 'scope/time/cost' triangle we will look at ways of communicating issues to decision makers with positive & powerful feedback.

What is a Strategy?

Via a brief roundup of the background reading set we will decide on what strategy means.

Organisational Analysis

We will analyse the strengths and weaknesses for your organisation and one of the Telecoms case studies you have researched specific to the wireless market. We will look at organisational lifecycles and decide where your organisation is and what this means.

Future Modelling

You will learn some creative thinking techniques that will allow you to see trends within your industry and discuss what may come next in this market. This will allow you to focus on what risks and opportunities may arise in order to move with these changes.

Risk - Opportunity Management

Looking at organisational risk registers and the opportunities noted so far, you will do some scenario planning to look at what needs to be put in place to mitigate the risks and foster the opportunities.

Vision - Motivation

You will spend some time analysing what your team vision is and how to communicate that most effectively. You will look at skills in active listening and a questioning technique to ensure you quickly drill down to the heart of the matter, so that you communicate like a leader.

Action Plan

You create an action plan to improve your leadership skills back at work.
