Course Overview The Microsoft .NET Framework provides very rich support for the development of "smart client" applications using Windows Forms 2.0. This latest version of Windows Forms is one of the most powerful, yet easy to use, platforms for creating compelling Windows applications. With rich support for data binding, upgraded layout and localisation features, support for multithreading and Microsoft Office-style tool- and menu-strip controls, you will be producing great looking, feature rich and responsive applications in record time. ClickOnceT deployment technology also makes it a snap to get your applications installed; overcoming one of the most common complaints levelled at Windows programs. This course will provide you with the skills necessary to create a modern Windows application, providing you with comprehensive coverage of this exciting technology Prerequisites Delegates should already have experience of using the C# or Visual Basic 2005 programming languages, which can be gained by attending either of the following courses: - The C# Programming Language (course code QACSHPL-2) or The Visual Basic 2005 Programming Language (course code QAVBNPL-2)
- Knowledge of GUI programming, using technologies such as Visual Basic 6, Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) or Windows Forms 1 would be an advantage, but it is not required
- This course is ideal for Developers and Team Leaders who will be using Windows Forms 2.0 and the Microsoft .NET Framework to write and deploy Windows applications.
Skills Gained - Use Microsoft(R) Visual Studio(R) 2005 to create a Windows Forms 2.0 application
- Configure and deploy an application using ClickOnceT deployment
- Work with the new menu- and tool-strip controls
- Create multi-form applications using OO best practices
- Use data binding techniques to minimise the amount of code needed to create data-driven applications
- Use GDI+ to create great looking controls and printed output
- Work with resources to produce applications for international markets
- Design user interfaces that provide help and which validate user input
- Add clipboard and drag 'n' drop support to their applications
- Manipulate and utilise application and user settings within their programs
- Create Windows Forms applications that work correctly with multiple threads of execution
- Go beyond the RAD features of Microsoft(R) Visual Studio(R) 2005 to create scalable and maintainable Windows Forms applications
- Explain how Windows Forms relates to other smart client technologies, such as InfoPath and Windows Presentation Foundation
