Examinations

This course is the final revision, before taking the certification tests, and is NOT a chance for non-experienced people to pass the exam. This course includes the cost of the certification test at a test centre of your choice.

From experience, the area to focus on is quite simple. If it is NEW then revise it! If there is a unique upgrade path, revise it.! Don't forget Linux on the I-Series, or Windows on the Integrated X-Series Server. i-Series Navigator & Management Central will be a critical part of the exams, so become familiar with it before you attend the course.

The Course material and the exam are at software release R530.

Normally the certification test will be taken at the end of the course, however be aware that the course may not necessarily finish with the associated test. Where courses are delivered at our Sampson House Education centre we would normally expect to offer the test at a local test centre at the conclusion of the course. In other locations it may be necessary for the student to take the test after the course, at a centre of their choosing.

Prerequisites

  • 1 year to 18 months of iSeries functional experience (must be able to work with current hardware and software)
  • Supports the i5/OS Operating System as well as including Microsoft Windows and Linux
  • Practical applied knowledge to understand implications behind certain key technical areas such as LPAR
  • Practical applied understanding of the basic concepts behind Command Language
  • Experience with iSeries Navigator and the HMC
  • Has functional experience with at least three major releases of the iSeries operating systems
We would also recommend that students make themselves familiar with TCP/IP concepts. It is our experience, that the 867 exam asks a number of questions on networking that relate to TCP/IP on the i-Series. Please also ensure you have the appropriate skills from the Basic Operators (AS24) and Work Management (OL23) course as this is very relevant to the 867 implementaion exam.
