Using IBM DB2 Universal Database for Windows performance tuning tools and techniques, and applicable to Linux, UNIX, or Windows platforms, you practise skills introduced on CF21, CF23 or CF28.

Audience

Database designers, database administrators and application developers who are concerned about performance.

  • Prerequisites

    • Before taking this course you should be able to administer a DB2 Universal Database on a serial processor (non-partitioned). This skills can be developed by taking a DB2 UDB Administration Workshop (CF21, CF23 or CF28).

    • DB2 UDB Administration Workshop for Windows (CF23N7GB)
    • Fastpath to DB2 UDB for Experienced DBAs (Basic) (CF28N4GB)
  • Skills Gained

    On completion you will be able to

Define the impact of database design (tables, indexes, data placement etc) on data performance

  • Describe database application programming considerations and how they affect performance
  • Identify and describe the parameters (database and non-database) which affect performance
  • Tune parameters to achieve optimum performance
  • Identify and use the tools that assist in monitoring and tuning of a database.

    Remarks

    From September 2007, this course will be at the DB2 version 9 level of software. Please note that the extensive hands-on practical exercises will be done using DB2 UDB for Linux.
