This course teaches students how to install and tailor a CICS Transaction Server for z/OS system in order to be able to set up and start a new CICS region, and to support network devices to be connected to CICS and applications to be run under CICS control.

Audience

System Programmers installing and tailoring CICS Transaction Server for the first time.

  • Prerequisites

    • A working knowledge of z/OS (MVS) and TSO/ISPF .
    Attended course CI01U or have equivalent knowledge.
  • CICS Fundamentals (CI01U)
  • Skills Gained

    • Tailor a basic CICS Transaction Server system

    Using a provided application description, define resources and customize the following:

  • Transactions and associated programs/mapsets
  • VSAM files and DB2 access
  • 3270 Terminal and Autoinstall-Models supporting them
  • Transient data destinations
  • Temporary Storage models
  • CICS TS Logstreams
  • Define the major functions and parameters associated with the following:
  • Initiation/Termination
  • Recovery/Restart, use of MVS logstreams
  • Security
  • List the CICS TS dataset requirements
  • List the functions of intercommunication facilities
    • Identify sources of information necessary for basic problem determination

      Remarks

      This course builds on a basic knowledge of CICS, as delivered by the CICS Fundamentals CI01U course.

Practical Work

Practical exercises are included.
