Course Overview The new concepts introduced with the z990 & z890 which significantly change the HCD process. It also covers the various topologies available with FICON channels, including cascaded FICON directors and FICON CTCs, and the use of Parallel Access Volumes (PAVs) with the IBM Enterprise Storage Server (ESS). Audience People responsible for maintaining the I/O configuration at their z/OS installation. This class is highly recommended as an immediate follow on for anyone who has just attended the basic HCD workshop (ES96GB). Prerequisites - Basic knowledge of the use of HCD dialogs to create an I/O configuration and dynamically alter the I/O configuration. This can be gained by attending the ES96GB HCD class.

Course Outline The course cover topics, so that on completion, delegates will be able to: - Describe the major new functions of the z990
- Explain the implications of multiple Logical Channel Subsystems
- Configure a z990 to HCD including the use of the Chpid Mapping Tool
- Describe the major differences between ESCON and FICON
- Configure FICON point-to-point and Switched point-to-point configurations
- Configure FICON using Cascaded FICON directors
- Configure FICON CTCs
- Describe the HCD configuration requirements of the IBM ESS subsystem
- Understand rules for coding PAVs
- Understand the benefits of PAVs.
Remarks This 1 day class is normally scheduled immediately after the basic HCD workshop (ES96GB - 3 days) to allow those new to HCD to attend both classes in the single week. Attendees may wish to bring their z990 hardware configuration report file (.HWC or .CFR), in softcopy, to use with the chpid mapping tool. Practical Work The teaching sessions are accompanied by practical work.
