Course Overview

This course is the next step in the progression from the Linux Fundamentals course and the Linux System Administration course. The knowledge gained from this course (and the pre-requisite courses) combined with relevant exam specific study guide will give delegates a good grounding in Linux including Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPI) level 1, Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification and Sair Linux & GNU Certification.

Students will gain a comprehensive overview of the TCP/IP functionality and networking features and daemons available for the Linux platform.

Audience

Students responsible for providing network services, whether in a development or a production environment will benefit from this course.

Examinations

Completion of this course will give students a good grounding in the following:
  • Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPI) level 1, Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification and Sair Linux & GNU Certification.

Prerequisites

  • Students should have completed the courses: Linux Fundamentals - 934 and Linux System Administration - 935.
  • Students should have 6-12 months experience with Linux. Familiarity with the Linux or Unix command line is required. Experience with TCP/IP and networking is required before attending this course.
  • The course materials, lectures, and lab exercises are in English. To benefit fully from the instruction, students need an understanding of the English language and completion of the prerequisites.

Skills Gained

This course will provide delegates with the information you need to complete the following:

  • Install TCP/IP networking and define the common ports.
  • Explain the Client/Server model.
  • Relate some of the history of the Internet.
  • Use TCP/IP to perform basic functions.
  • Troubleshoot TCP/IP problems and understand the concepts behind network troubleshooting and network management.
  • Set up and configure basic DNS services.
  • Perform basic Apache configuration for a simple Web server.
  • Configure file sharing using Samba.
  • Configure file sharing using NFS.
  • Install, configure and manage network services for e-mail, Web services, Samba, NFS, and DNS.
  • Start and stop the appropriate daemons for network services.
