Course Overview

There are other courses on the subject of 3G mobile and UMTS - the Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service - however these courses tend to be oriented towards the needs of UMTS equipment manufacturers or the providers of UMTS service. This course is different; it explains UMTS (and HSDPA) from the viewpoint of a user - a well informed and probably corporate user - but nevertheless a service user rather than someone working on the provider's side.

Most details of the UMTS air interface, the signalling messages, and so on, are no interest to the user. What is of interest is a set of answers to questions like:

  • Where is UMTS today?
  • What can I do with UMTS?
  • What do I need in order to use UMTS services?

This course attempts to answer these and many more related questions.

Audience

Non-technical professionals requiring a semi-technical introduction to UMTS systems, technology and the end-user services that UMTS / HSDPA can deliver.
