Course Overview

We have probably all worked with good and bad managers and are only too aware of the difference that makes to our morale and performance. Developing better managers is critical to a high performance organisation - it is key to unlocking the competitive advantage that lies in your people.

Developing better managers takes time and effort - the management job is a challenging and dynamic one. The emphasis is on outputs - achieving the best from the resources available and that is a far from static challenge-objectives and targets are varied, markets evolve and the resources and technologies available change. Your ability as a manager to impact on performance is considerable but to do that you first have to have a deep appreciation of your own strengths and development needs and how these shape your performance as a manager of people.

Effective people management is about what you know, your attitudes and behaviours. This programme gives you the opportunity to take an in depth look at yourself in the context of people management and to develop and implement your own development plan. In the process you will improve your own skills in reflection, find ways of managing your own learning and development and measure the impact of your development on team performance.

  • newly appointed managers who need support and structure to help develop their people management skills quickly
  • managers who have recognised that they need development if their team's performance is to improve
  • managers in organisations where improved performance levels are seen as key to customer satisfaction, competitive advantage and maintaining market position.
