CITP - Module 3 - Coaching and Assessment

Course Overview

The Certificate in Training Practice (CTP) is a nationally-recognised, stand-alone qualification awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD). The route towards achieving the CTP follows a syllabus-based programme that covers a range of knowledge, skills and competences, all of which can be directly applied in the workplace.

Audience

  • Those involved in training and development in organisations or working as independent trainers
  • Training administrators seeking a broader understanding of the principles of training and development
  • Those aspiring to a career in training and development
  • Managers with a responsibility for training and development.
  • Skills Gained

    .

    Coaching and Assessment

Having dealt with the delivery of training to small groups, we now narrow the focus and turn our attention to the provision of one-to-one coaching in the workplace. On the second day we deal a more formal aspect of the trainer's role, namely the assessment of performance.

We are now approaching the half way point of the CTP programme. As the modules unfold, the programme changes from an initially tutor-led one to one where the participants take an increasingly central role. This becomes evident on the third day: a day which is almost entirely student-lead.

    Day 1: Coaching

    • Coaching in context.
    • The coach/learner relationship.
    • Coaching for change; coaching for improvement; coaching for performance.
    • Preparing to coach; content and environment.
    • Coaching styles.
    • Giving feedback: formative and summative.
    • Coaching practice.

    Day 2: Assessment

    • Assessment tools and techniques.
    • Questioning and listening.
    • Practical assessment exercise with peer group and tutor feedback.

Day 3: Debates and Developments in Learning & Development

    • Leading discussions.
    • Current Debates and Developments in Learning & Development.

    Examinations

Completion of this course will assist delegates in achieving Certificate In Training Practice

    Prerequisites

None. However, to achieve the CITP, delegates need to complete all six modules.

    Course Outline

The programme is based on four separate units:
    • Learning and Development in context
    • Identifying and prioritising learning needs
    • Designing training and assessing performance
    • Delivering and evaluating training.

The units are covered during six 3 - day modules and through a minimum of 120 hours individual study.

Prospective candidates have the benefit of choosing from two ways of tackling module attendance: a 'fast track' route and a slower route. Their choice will depend on their personal preference and their commitments.

In addition to attending the six modular workshops, participants are required to complete two written and two skills based assignments. These are assessed by the programme tutors.

Participants also complete a work-related project, the culmination of which is the presentation of a 3,500 word project report. The aim of the project is to give participants an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills that they have acquired during the programme to a 'live' training-related business issue. As with the assignments, the project report is assessed by the programme tutors.

To ensure consistency and fairness, all assignment assessments are verified by a second CTP tutor and a sample is also assessed by a CIPD-appointed External Moderator.

    What Support will Participants Receive?

Evaluation and assessment of participants' learning is made primarily by the learners themselves. That assessment may be influenced and enriched by feedback from other members of the learning group in the form of peer assessment.

We believe in the personal touch. Therefore, our tutors support and advise participants throughout the programme, especially when preparing the assignments and conducting their projects.

We also strongly recommend that participants obtain the support of their line manager or a qualified mentor throughout the programme.

    Follow On Courses

The CTP follows a sylabus of six modules ( 1 - 6) which should all be completed in order to obtain the Certificate In Training Practice.
