Course Overview The Certificate in Training Practice (CTP) is a nationally-recognised, stand-alone qualification awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD). The route towards achieving the CTP follows a syllabus-based programme that covers a range of knowledge, skills and competences, all of which can be directly applied in the workplace. It is a programme for practising or aspiring Learning and Development practitioners and is run by experienced training professionals. This course covers Module Six - Facilitation Skills. Skills Gained Module Six - Facilitation Skills Understanding of group dynamics: the factors that influence the way individuals behave in groups, the roles they play and the ways they communicate How to acquire authority from the group, to encourage participation, to develop the creativity of the group, and to lead the group discussion The importance of accurate and objective observation; developing sensitivity Managing conflict in the group Reflecting observations to the group; suspending judgment; explaining consequences; distinguishing between process and content, facts and opinion Examinations Succesful completion and evaluation of all six modules leads to the Certificate in Training Practice (CTP) Prerequisites None Course Outline Module Six develops more advanced training skills and to lay the foundations of the trainer as facilitator of learning rather than just the deliverer of training. Day 1: Facilitation Skills for Trainers - The purpose of facilitation and the role of the facilitator
- Group dynamics: the factors that influence the way individuals behave in groups; the roles they play; the ways they communicate; and the maturity of the group itself
- The processes that can be used to give structure to the activity and produce agreed outcomes
- Clarifying outcomes: recording and agreeing results; deciding what comes next
Day 2 - Further skills to acquire authority from the group, to encourage participation, to develop the creativity of the group, and to lead the group discussion
- The importance of accurate and objective observation; developing sensitivity
- When and how to intervene; when to 'let it ride'
- Managing conflict in the group
- Reflecting observations back to the group; suspending judgment; explaining consequences; distinguishing between process and content, facts and opinion
Day 3 - Facilitating training: opportunities, benefits and specific skills
- Practising facilitation techniques. Participants plan, organise and run presentations, discussions and feedback on their projects
