iSeries Performance Analysis and Capacity Planning

Course Overview

Learn how to use the System i collection services to gather performance data. Use the latest System i tools available for reports, displays, and graphics to analyse system performance. Also use the capacity planner to estimate resource utilisation and manage system growth.

Audience

This is an intermediate course for individuals responsible for performance analysis and capacity planning on iSeries systems and using Performance Tools for iSeries.

Prerequisites

You should complete:

• Operating System/400 Structure, Tailoring and Basic Tuning (S6023) or (OL230)

and be able to:

• Use performance data from the WRKSYSSTS display to adjust pool sizes and activity levels in order to tune the system
• Recognise jobs with high resource utilization on the WRKACTJOB display
• Recognise major factors which could contribute to high faulting rates and resource conflicts
• List the major components of an iSeries job
• Distinguish between active, long wait, and ineligible job thread states
• Describe the effect of run priority and timeslice on job performance
