Course Overview

This 2 day workshop is designed to prepare delegates as candidates for the APM Practitioner Qualification assessment centre. It provides information on prerequisites and allows delegates to participate in activities similar to those by which they will be assessed.

This course has been classified as Business Skills.

Audience

Suitable candidates will have 3 to 5 years experience in managing non-complex projects or run a key control function of a largescale project. Candidates for the PQ Assessment Centre must also satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • Passed the APMP qualification; or
  • Demonstrate good familiarity with the APM Body of Knowledge and have passed an equivalent qualification such as PMP, ISEB Certificate in Project Management, Open University Project Management Module M865; or
  • Can demonstrate they have a good foundation knowledge of project management, supported by evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).

Skills Gained

By the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • Understand the requirements of the APM in awarding the Practitioner Qualification.
  • Understand how the assessment will be carried out.
  • Understand the requirements for the CPD submission (if required).
  • Have a framework on which to build a preparation for assessment.
  • Have practised the knowledge required.

This highly participative workshop covers:

The qualification and the candidate:

  • What the PQ means and what is expected of the candidate.
  • Review of individual's CPD submission (as appropriate)

Assessment centres:

  • What they are and how they work.

Awareness and application of the APM BoK:

  • How to familiarise yourself with and apply the information in the APM BoK.

Professional Interviews:

  • What to expect and how to manage the process.

Use of a case study to produce presentations:

  • Practice in the kind of preparation and presentation needed in the assessment.

Simulations:

  • A chance to practice in a 'safe' environment the types of challenges presented when working on projects including reflection on effective behaviours.

Preparation for assessment:

  • What to do between completing the workshop and attending the assessment.
