Course Overview This three-day instructor-led course will teach students how to quickly deploy Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Office 2003 Editions, as well as other business and third-party applications, to computers across an organization by using the guidelines provided by the Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) Standard Edition. Audience This course is intended for consultants who focus on medium-sized to large-sized businesses (250 to 5,000 PCs). The audience consists of IT Professionals who plan, build, and deploy desktops. Skills Gained Delegates will learn how to - Describe the content and purpose of the Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) Standard Edition and describe the tasks needed to deploy a business desktop solution.
- Test and mitigate compatibility issues in high-priority applications by using the Application Compatibility Toolkit.
- Customize and use the User State Migration Tool (USMT) to preserve user documents and settings when deploying a disk image to a desktop computer.
- Configure security on a BDD disk image.
- Prepare and customize core applications, including Office 2003, for deployment as part of a BDD disk image.
- Package supplemental applications for installation after disk-image deployment.
- Perform basic tasks by using the Computer Imaging System.
- Customize a disk image by using the Computer Imaging system.
- Deploy disk images by using the Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) Standard Edition Deployment Wizard.
Examinations Leads to examination - 74-139: Deploying Business Desktops with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003
Prerequisites Before attending this course, students must have: - At least six months' experience supporting a Microsoft Windows network.
- Knowledge of and experience with the following:
- Hardware device drivers (how they are typically distributed and packaged).
- Creating and modifying Unattended answer files.
- Modifying the Windows registry.
- Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, and the TCP/IP protocol suite.
Knowledge of the following: - Basic Command Prompt batch scripting techniques.
- Creating boot disks.
- Microsoft Office 2003.
In addition, it is helpful to be familiar with: - Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) and Windows Management Infrastructure (WMI).
- Testing methodologies.
