This course is designed to increase the confidence of participants by helping them to acquire a knowledge of the legal framework and an understanding of the administrative procedures necessary for the smooth running of the personnel department

  • The role of personnel in the organisation
  • The role of the administrator/assistant in the personnel department
  • Recruitment and selection: sex and race discrimination and ethnic monitoring; employing people with disabilities; job and person specifications; recording and monitoring applicants for jobs
  • Engagement procedures: contracts of employment and written particulars; references; engagement and induction checklists
  • Maternity procedures: maternity leave and pay; health and safety
  • Termination: notice periods; termination reports; exit interviews; calculating labour turnover
  • Discipline and dismissal: fair reasons for dismissal; the ACAS Code of Practice; employment tribunal procedures
