Course Overview

Through an exploration of words, sentences and paragraphs, this programme aims to give participants an appreciation of the richness of language and of how they can use it in order to communicate clearly.

Course Outline

• Introducing The Grammar Workbook; identifying how we learn and use language
• Parts of speech: how words differ in function and meaning; identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs
• Groups of words: the system for organising words into groups; using a toolkit for analysing language; identifying the active and passive
• Structuring information: organising sentences into paragraphs; making sense of paragraphs with punctuation; how style affects the tone of writing; developing an appropriate tone
• Style planning: establishing personal standards for an appropriate corporate writing style
