Course Overview

This course teaches delegates the techniques required to make the most of the capabilities of Query/400 when producing reports and files, and how Client Access Data Transfer can be used to download query files to a PC.

Audience

Staff who already have a familiarity with the basics of Query/400, who will be using Query/400 extensively, and need to learn how to produce complex reports, files for reports and/or download query files to a PC.

Prerequisites

Delegates must have attended Sierras iSeries Basic Query course or similar.

  • Joining files
  • Customised collating sequences - unusual sort orders
  • Hiding sort fields not needed in reports
  • Editing the appearance of fields, such as adding text to numeric data
  • Queries on summary report data
  • Performing IFs for conditional record selection
  • Perform numeric calculations
  • Concatenation and substring functions
  • Date, time and timestamp functions
  • Creating new fields combining various functions
  • Formatting dates to be used in date calculations
  • How to recognise and deal with calculation errors
  • Ensuring valid data for data transfer to PCs
  • Basic use of Client Access Data Transfer
  • Advice on automating queries using RUNQRY
  • Disabling interactive querying
