Demystifying Programme and Project Management

CAPM
Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), is an entry level certification in project management designed for project team members and managed by PMI(Project Management Institute) in accordance with their published ANSI standard PMBOK Guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide).

Used by many hundreds of organisations around the world, a whole ITIL philosophy has grown up around the guidance contained within the ITIL books and the supporting professional qualification scheme.

M_o_R
Management of Risk (M_o_R) is part of the Best Practice Guidance portfolio published by the Office of Government Commerce (OgC). M_o_R considers risk from different perspectives within an organisation: strategic, programme, project and operational. While it links to other OGC Best Practice, it respects the roles, responsibilities and terminologies used outside the disciplines of programme and project management.

MSP
Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) was developed by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) as a best practice guide. The guide represents proven programme management and good practice in the successful delivery of transformational change, through the application of programme management. MSP has been used and adopted within many organisations both within the public and private sectors.

P30
Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices (P3O) is the latest best practice guidance from the UK's Office of Government Commerce. The new P3O guidance - aligned to PRINCE2, MSP, and M_o_R - brings together in one place a set of principles, processes and techniques to facilitate effective portfolio, programme and project management through enablement, challenge and support structures.

PgMP
Program Management Professional (PgMP), is a certificate issued by the Project management Institute to accredit Project Managers who want to be certified as a Program Management Professional (PgMP). It has been specifically developed to recognise the role of professional Program Managers and Project Directors to qualify for the PgMP, applicants must have a bachelors degree or global equivalent, at least 4,500 hours spent in the specialized area of professional project risk management within the last five consecutive years 40 contact hours of formal education in the specialized area of project risk

PMI-RMP
The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) credential recognizes demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the specialized area of assessing and identifying project risks while mitigating threats and capitalizing on opportunities. To qualify for the PMI-RMP examination, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or global equivalent, three to five years of professional work experience, with 3,000 hours of experience in project risk management, along with 30 contact hours of formal education in project risk management.
PMI-SP
A PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) is a project scheduling professional who provides expertise in the specialised area of developing and maintaining the project schedule. Credential holders will possess the skills, knowledge and experience to contribute directly to the successful execution of schedules, crucial projects and to impact their organisation’s bottom line.
PMP
Project Management Professional (PMP), was initiated to recognize an individual’s demonstrated understanding of the knowledge and skills to lead and direct project teams and to deliver results within the constraints of schedule, budget, and resources. Candidates for the PMP credential ensure that all of the aspects of the project plan are executed and that progress and variances are properly addressed and communicated. They are responsible for all aspects of the project for the life of the project and not only lead and direct the project, but also oversee project team members.

PPM
Programme and Project Management (PPM) was jointly developed by the APM Group and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to satisfy the market need from Programme/Project Managers for a degree level qualification specific to their professions.

PPM – Diploma

PRINCE2
PRINCE2 is a process-based approach for project management providing an easily tailored and scaleable method for the management of all types of projects. The method is the de-facto standard for project management in the UK and the continued international development of PRINCE2 examinations, training and course material is contributing significantly to the recognition of PRINCE2 as a truly international standard. Six Sigma
Six Sigma is a business management strategy, originally developed by Motorola, that today enjoys widespread application in many sectors of industry.
Six Sigma seeks to identify and remove the causes of defects and errors in manufacturing and business processes. It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization ("Black Belts" etc.) who are experts in these methods. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has quantified financial targets (cost reduction or profit increase).
